CELEBRATING 50 YEARS!
Answers to your questions about benefits and medicare options.
Support Groups
Micaela Finnegan, LMSW, is the Social Worker at The Estuary and is available to discuss any social and emotional needs as well as provide Mental Health screenings and referrals. This program is supported by Senior Resources with Title III funds available under the Older American Act.

This group offers social, emotional, and practical support for those who are aging alone and helps attendees make new connections.
This program provides support while normalizing the grieving process. The group is there to listen, learn, and support; to talk about the difficult aspects of loss while also celebrating the lives of loved ones.

Benefits Counseling

Volunteer C.H.O.I.C.E.S. SHIP (State Health Insurance assistance Program) Counselors are available through Senior Resources - Agency on Aging to help seniors and other Medicare beneficiaries and their families better understand all of their health insurance options such as:
Medicare
Prescription Drug Benefits
Supplemental Medigap Policies
Members can call to find the nearest counselor.
Counselors do not sell insurance and cannot recommend one plan over another but rather help clients make the best choice for their personal situation.
Carlos Maynard, a certified Medicare specialist, conducts a Medicare Roundtable at The Estuary each month to assist you with questions regarding Medicare, Medigap, and Medicare Advantage.
To make an appointment, please contact Carlos directly at 203-453-0003.

Lending Closet
Members of the community are welcome to borrow mobility items such as canes, walkers, crutches, and transport chairs.
We do not accept or lend out any other types of durable medical goods or equipment. If you need additional items, our staff is happy to refer you to other organizations that may be able to help.
If you would like to donate mobility items for the benefit of the community, please call us at 860-388-1611.
AARP Tax-Aide Program
Free income tax assistance will once again be available at the Estuary and in other shoreline towns. Volunteer AARP Certified Tax-Aide counselors provide this free assistance for low-and-middle-income taxpayers of all ages, with special attention to those 50 & older. Taxes are prepared by appointment only starting in early February.
We encourage you to try to book your appointment through the AARP’s Tax-Aide scheduling website if you have internet access: www.aarp.org/money/taxes/aarp-taxaide/locations/. Online appointment booking should be available around January 21st.
A call line staffed by volunteers will be set up for those who do not have access to the internet. The call line will be available beginning on Jan 21. The phone number for appointments is 860-579-3192. Again, the phone line will not be available until late in January so please do not try calling until Jan 21 or later. Once the phone line does open, if you do not connect with a live volunteer, please leave a message; someone will get back to you to schedule an appointment. Please add AARP Tax-Aide's call number, 860-579-3192, to your contacts list, and be sure to answer your phone when the Tax-Aide volunteer calls you back.
